School-based Services
Schools are often one of the first places where children and teens show signs that they may need additional support. This page is designed to help parents, caregivers, educators, and community members understand the range of school-based behavioral health services available in Union County. Here, you’ll find clear descriptions of supports available within the school setting — from prevention and social-emotional learning programs to school-based counseling, consultation, and connections to community treatment. Each section explains what the service is, who it’s for, and how it can help, with links to learn more and access support. Whether a student needs early support to build coping skills or more individualized services, school-based supports play an important role in helping children succeed both academically and emotionally.

Prevention Services
Strong prevention efforts help children and teens build the skills they need to manage emotions, form healthy relationships, and make positive choices. In partnership with community organizations, Union County schools offer evidence-based prevention programs that support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral well-being.

Prevention programs are typically delivered during the school day and focus on building protective factors such as resilience, coping skills, leadership, healthy decision-making, and connection with trusted adults. Many of these supports are provided universally to students, while others are offered in small groups or targeted settings based on student needs. Together, these programs help create supportive school environments where students feel connected, confident, and ready to learn.
School navigation
When a student may benefit from additional behavioral health support, School Navigation services help connect families, schools, and community resources to ensure students receive the care they need. School Navigators work alongside school staff to identify concerns, reduce barriers to accessing services, and guide families through available supports. By providing early intervention, coordination, and individualized assistance, School Navigation helps students and families access the right resources at the right time, supporting both academic success and overall wellbeing.
