Community-Based Services
Every child and family’s journey is unique, and finding the right support shouldn’t feel overwhelming. This page is designed to help parents, caregivers, youth-serving professionals, and other community members understand the range of community-based behavioral health services available in Union County. Here, you’ll find clear descriptions of supports for young children, school-aged youth, and teens — from early childhood consultation and parenting groups to service coordination, outpatient counseling, and more intensive treatment options. Each section explains what the service is, who it’s for, and how it can help, with links to learn more and take the next step. Whether you’re seeking support for your own family or helping connect someone else to care, this page serves as a starting point for finding the right level of support at the right time.

Early Childhood Support
Big feelings are a normal part of early childhood, and families don’t have to figure them out on their own. In 2024, Union County launched Building Strong Foundations, a SAMHSA-funded initiative focused on expanding mental health supports for young children and the adults who care for them – both at home and in early learning settings.
Through this work, families have access to Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation and evidence-based parenting groups, designed to support healthy development, strengthen relationships, and meet families where they are.

Big needs can show up at any stage of childhood — and families shouldn’t have to navigate complex systems on their own. Service Coordination and High-Fidelity Wraparound are designed to support children, youth, and families when challenges feel overwhelming or when support is needed across multiple areas of life. These services bring together the people who know a child best — family members, natural supports, and professionals from school, behavioral health, medical, and community systems — to create one coordinated, strengths-based plan. The goal is to reduce stress, improve communication, and help families feel supported, heard, and connected to the right services at the right time.

Outpatient Treatment Services
Sometimes kids and teens need extra support to work through emotional or behavioral challenges. Outpatient behavioral health services offer ongoing counseling and mental health support for children, youth, and families in Union County. These services may include individual therapy, family counseling, case management, and other supports tailored to a child or teen’s needs. Outpatient care is designed to be flexible and accessible, helping young people build coping skills, strengthen relationships, and feel more supported in their day-to-day lives, while allowing families to stay connected to school, home, and community.

When challenges feel intense or hard to manage with weekly supports alone, more structured help may be needed. Intensive treatment services provide a higher level of support for children and teens who are experiencing significant emotional or behavioral distress. These services may include Intensive Home-Based Treatment, which brings support directly into the home and community, or Intensive Outpatient Treatment, which offers structured, multi-day-per-week therapy while allowing youth to remain at home and connected to school. The goal of intensive services is to promote safety, stability, and healing, while helping young people and families build skills, strengthen supports, and move toward long-term wellness.
