Intensive Treatment Services
Some children and youth need more support than traditional outpatient counseling can provide. Intensive treatment services offer higher levels of care for Union County families when emotional or behavioral challenges significantly impact safety, daily functioning, or family stability.

Intensive treatment services available in Union County (and surrounding areas) include:
-
Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) – immediate, in-person crisis support (Monday – Friday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.)
-
Intensive Home-Based Treatment (IHBT) – short-term, high-intensity therapy provided in the home and community
-
Intensive Outpatient Services (IOP) – structured therapy multiple times per week while youth continue living at home
-
Partial Hospitalization Services (PHP) – daytime, hospital-based treatment with youth returning home each evening
These services are designed to stabilize crises, prevent hospitalization or out-of-home placement when possible, and help families transition back to lower levels of care. Some of the available options are detailed below, but please see our Provider Directory for a more comprehensive list of behavioral health providers.

Mobile Response and Stabilization Services
MRSS provides rapid, in-person support for Union County families with youth and young adults up to age 21 who are experiencing emotional or behavioral distress. Families can receive help within 60 minutes of contacting MRSS, along with up to 42 days of intensive, in-home stabilization services and connection to ongoing supports. Services may include safety assessments, de-escalation, peer support, and skill-building. MRSS is funded by the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health and provided locally by Coleman Health Services.
To access MRSS, call or text 988 at any time. Teams are available for immediate, in-person response Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. When calling outside of these hours, an in-person response can be scheduled for a time that works for your family.

Intensive Home-Based Treatment (IHBT) is a short-term, high-intensity mental health service for children and adolescents who are experiencing significant emotional or behavioral challenges that are impacting their ability to function at home, school, or in the community.

IHBT brings therapy and support directly to Union County youth (ages 5-20) and families, most often in the home and other natural settings. Services are designed to stabilize crises, strengthen family relationships, and build skills that help youth remain safely at home and connected to school. Services are typically provided multiple times per week and are time-limited, often lasting 3–6 months, depending on the needs of the youth and family.
IHBT may be appropriate for youth who:
-
Are experiencing severe emotional or behavioral challenges
-
Are at risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement
-
Have not made progress with traditional outpatient therapy alone
-
Need more frequent and intensive support to stay safely at home
-
Benefit from whole-family involvement in treatment
IHBT is designed to prevent higher levels of care whenever possible by providing strong, coordinated supports in everyday environments.
The goal of IHBT is not just to reduce crisis behaviors, but to:
-
Safety planning and crisis stabilization
-
Family and caregiver coaching and support
-
Reducing emotional and behavioral symptoms
-
Improving functioning at home, school, and in the community
IHBT is time-limited and focused on helping families feel more confident and supported as services transition back to lower levels of care when appropriate.
How IHBT Helps Families
IHBT In Union County
National Youth Advocate Program

Youth must have Medicaid insurance or be engaged with OhioRise waiver to qualify for IHBT with this provider.

is a structured mental health service for children and teens who need more support than weekly outpatient therapy but do not require inpatient or residential care. IOP typically includes therapy several times per week and may involve individual counseling, group therapy, and family involvement. These services help youth build coping skills, manage emotions and behaviors, and improve daily functioning—while continuing to live at home and attend school.

Partial Hospitalization Services (PHP)
Partial Hospitalization Services (PHP) provide a high level of mental health care for adolescents who need more intensive support than outpatient or intensive outpatient treatment but do not require 24-hour inpatient hospitalization. PHP offers structured, therapeutic programming during the day while allowing youth to return home in the evenings to a safe and supportive environment.

This level of care is often used as a step-down from inpatient treatment or as a step-up when lower levels of care are not meeting a youth’s needs. PHP helps stabilize symptoms, strengthen coping skills, and support youth in continuing their recovery while remaining connected to family and home.
